The Pink List is a collection of candidates contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections who have publicly supported LGBTQ+ rights.
We’ve been calling out homophobic MPs for a while. And we will continue to do so. But we must also recognize efforts of those (across parties) who stand up for queer and trans rights.
Not just reward superstars, but also cultivate those who are queer and trans-inclusive. Support LGBTQ+ candidates running for elections by giving them a platform to be heard.
Eventually, we need to build a network of politicians across party lines to make queer issues a political imperative. Because our fight does not end after 377.
This is an archive of public statements made by candidates on queer and trans issues only. We do not endorse any of the candidates on the list and encourage you to probe into their views on axes of inclusion including (but not limited to) caste, class, religion and gender to make a truly informed choice this election.
This is an electoral list.
This is not a list of all politicians who support LGBTQ+ rights. This is not a list of all elected politicians who support LGBTQ+ rights. This is a list of 2019 Lok Sabha candidates who Indian citizens can directly vote for who support LGBTQ+ rights.
A list of candidates, not parties.
Just because candidates support LGBTQ+ rights does not mean that their parties are queer and trans-inclusive. We are striving to create a section on how parties have supported LGBTQ+ rights in public statements or manifestos.
A list that has a long way to go.
Candidates who support LGBTQ+ rights are not necessarily inclusive in other spheres.
We encourage you to dig deeper
into candidates' views on caste, religion, gender and income inequality to make a truly informed choice this year.
